Middle Creek Church was founded by a group of Presbyterian families from Pennsylvania.

Being staunch Presbyterians, they desired a church near their homes.

On June 24, 1855, a preaching service was held and a church with 16 charter members was formed.

Why Middle Creek?

In Pennsylvania, there had been a Middle Ridge Church. Since there were no ridges here,
but three creeks, the name Middle Creek was chosen.

In 1866, Rev. Joseph S Braddock became the first installed pastor.
He was to be the esteemed and beloved pastor for 42 years.

Rev. Harry Patterson Armstrong came to Middle Creek in 1908 and served for 33 years, until 1941.

Rev. George H. Swalve, Jr. came to Middle Creek as a student pastor in 1946.

He retired in 1985 and is Middle Creek’s Pastor Emeritus.

He and his wife, Trudy, served the church for 39 years. In these years the church grew greatly in membership and service.

Rev. Howard W. Strong was at Middle Creek from 1942 to 1945.
Rev. Brenda K. Alexander served from 1987 until 1997, when she accepted another call.
Rev. Keith E. Jones began ministry with us in August of 1998 and served until June of 2002.
Currently, Pastor Anita Stuart-Steva is serving as our Pastor.

The Evolution of the Church's Structure

In 1860, the congregation of 47 members decided to build its own house of worship on donated land.

In 1911, the church was extensively remodeled and in 1949, a basement was put under the church

Along with the church, a cemetery was also developed.

In 1961, a two level brick Education Wing was dedicated.

On March 16, 1969, a new colonial style brick structure was dedicated.

In 1954, the manse was built by the church.

In 1985, a church office was added to the east side of the church.

And in 1999, we added 1 1/3 acres of land and “The Middle House” just east of the church, between the church and the manse.
